"Daler Mehndi met with senior government officials. I mean given the scale of our problems on the economic and the security front how do these guys find time to meet with singers and all types of riffraff floating into the country."
"Calm down, what has you so angered?"
"Why would President Zardari meet with Daler Mehndi?"
"For some comic relief given that he is so beset with dealing with problems..."
"I thought he had enough Jiyalas around him to provide comic relief."
"Whatever do you mean?"
"Well, there is the Prime Minister who daily visits the Aiwan-e-Sadr to seek instructions and I am afraid..."
"Be grateful for small mercies."
"Whatever do you mean?"
"No traffic roads are blocked when the PM makes that daily yatra. Can you imagine what us poor people in Islamabad would have had to suffer if Zardari was resident elsewhere."
"Well, there is that but my point is simple: the President is no longer the first spouse if you know what I mean. He must meet with those who are at par with him."
"So Daler Mehndi is out?"
"Well, no but perhaps he should no longer meet with department heads of international financial institutions. Their counterparts are secretaries of our ministries so really that should be resisted."
"I agree maybe he can meet with the Presidents of these institutions."
"OK."
"Then there are his daily routine briefings which must not be aired on television or the print media."
"Yes, over-exposure does erode the popularity of a leader."
"Correct and Sherry Rehman needs to work on the President's speeches and more importantly his delivery."
"Agreed."
